Success Story: Seamlessly Updating an osCommerce 2.3 Import
January 24, 2025
After nearly a year of progress following the initial migration of their original osCommerce 2.3 database, a customer faced the challenge of updating the import with new orders, customers, and product changes. They needed guidance on the most efficient way to:
- Update the initial import without re-importing unchanged data.
- Handle approximately 700 new orders and potentially returning customers.
- Avoid unnecessary duplication and ensure data accuracy.
The osCommerce support team provided a straightforward approach to complete the update efficiently:
- Skip Unchanged Products:
- If no products have been added or modified since the initial import, there’s no need to re-import them.
- Import Customers and Orders:
- Use the import functionality to add new records and update existing ones.
- Note: New records may have different IDs from those in the original database, so proper association is ensured during the process.
This method saves time, avoids data duplication, and ensures that the system reflects the most current information. Maintain your store data efficiently, even after extensive changes over time.
