Open Source vs Commercial TCO Report
Cybersource recently released a study comparing operating costs of businesses running Linux and Open Source solutions with those running Microsoft and commercial solutions.
The report concludes, with the case study provided, that the Total Cost of Ownership using Open Source solutions over 3 years on existing hardware and infrastructure can save 34.26% against commercial solutions, and 24.69% when new hardware and infrastructure is purchased.
The Exchange Project (now osCommerce) was used in the report as a comparison to commercial products for software solution costs - which shows The Exchange Project shares the same license costs as most other open source solutions: no software license costs at all.

The fact that osCommerce has been chosen as an alternative to commercial solutions shows that we are heading in the right direction.
